Golden Whip Brook is the prime tourist area in Zhangjiajie. Golden Whip Brook is 6.5 kilometers long, windingly flow from west to east penetrating the Forest Park. Its name, Golden Whip Brook, comes from the fact that the stream passes by Golden Whip Rock.

On the banks of the Golden Whip Brook stands various of strange peaks, playing animals, antient plants and freely-wandering fish, all contributes to a peacful and gorgeous picturesque scenery. The places where Golden Whip Brook passes by are known as the most beautiful valley in the world.

The main scenic sights include Drunk Luohan, Golden Whip Rock, Flower and Fruit Mountain, Water Curtain Cave and Splitting Mountain, etc. Golden Whip Rock is around 380 meters high, composed by quartz sand, so the rock will reflect golden light when the sun shines on it. That's the reason for the attributive word "golden". Beside Golden Whip Rock sits a majesticaly eagle-like mountain, protecting Golen Whip Rock, thus this sight is called whip-protecting eagle. The sight of "Chen Xiang saves his mother" stems from a ancient story. A boy named Chen Xiang learned and practiced skills very hard to save his mother who was confined at the foot of a mountain beacause of her disobey the rules. Finally, Chen Xiang split the Mountain with an ax and saved his mother.
